Val Moran

Val Moran walking

Val Moran is a resident of Queanbeyan, mother of three children and grandmother of 10.

Val is reconstructing the amazing walk undertaken by Emma Sharp to raise funds for SIDS and Kids. Her commitment to this cause stems back to 1966 when she and her husband Peter experienced SIDS first hand with the loss of their daughter, Suzanne.

At that time there was no organisation such as SIDS and Kids and thus there was no support available to the family. Val and Peter lived with the uncertainty for decades as to why it happened, why it happened to them and was there something they could have done different to save her young life.

Val has been a strong supporter of SIDS and Kids ACT for a number of years donating her time to their fundraising programs and providing behind the scenes support to their excellent education and support services programs.

Val finds this walk important because she feels she is contributing to reducing the number of children lost to SIDS through support of the safe sleeping education program. She feels that her efforts will ensure that other families don’t have to go through what she and Peter went through by ensuring there is support available to everyone affected by the sudden and unexpected death of an infant or young child.
