SIDS and Kids ACT was formed in 1978 by a group of parents whose children had died through Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). We have grown over the years to provide education and support services to the people of the ACT and Southern Region of NSW. For more information or to access our services please call: 02 6287 4255.
Our vision is to save babies lives & support families
We achieve this through provision of quality education and bereavement support programs. We also provide funding to the National SIDS and Kids research program aimed at the prevention of sudden and unexpected death both prior to and after birth.
Bereavement Support Services
We provide a wide range of bereavement support services to families who lose a child suddenly and unexpectedly either during pregnancy or afterwards up to the age of 6 years. Including professional counselling, peer support and support groups.
Safe Sleeping Education Program
Our education program is delivered by trained midwives and maternal and child health nurses. The program is available to parents, expectant parents, health professionals, schools, child care workers and anyone else involved with young families.
Whilst our safe sleeping education program has seen a dramatic reduction in the incidence of SIDS in the past 13 years by 85% we know that there is no room for complacency. It is important the the program is available to every new generation of parents to ensure that infants are provided with a safe sleeping environment to ensure that the rate of SIDS continues to decline.
